When you think about switching to healthy food, dry fruits or nuts are the first things that pop up in your mind. These are recommended as a substitute for an unhealthy snack. You can munch on them for getting that tummy filled up or get that extra energy before you go for a good run or workout. They are also healthy & should be added to the diet because they have various benefits for the body. Doctors, dieticians & nutritionists especially ask people to eat them for a better lifestyle.
But do you know how dry fruits, nuts & seeds are different from each other? Well, fret not because we’ve all written it down for you for better understanding.
Dry fruits are the dried versions of actual fruits once the water has been soaked out of them. This is done either by a natural process, which is keeping them under the sunrays or by artificial means like heating in a microwave. These dry fruits contain vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and essential elements, which help in keeping the human body with the energy needed. They help in curing various diseases like diabetes, heart diseases, blood pressure, weight issues, etc. Some of the dry fruit have proven to improve skin, hair & bones as well. Example: apricots, prune, raisins, figs, etc.
If it has so many benefits, it has some side effects too. Fruits tend to lose their sweet content after they are converted into dry fruits, but to make them sweet, artificial sweeteners are added or injected into them, which is harmful to the body. It’s only dangerous if you intake dry fruits in a considerable quantity.
Nuts are known as dry fruits, seeds, & legumes with a hard shell. These are high in fat of the right kind, which is used as a substitute for food sometimes. The nuts are a carrier of protein, vitamins, minerals, magnesium, etc. which helps in controlling down the blood pressure, sugar cravings, weight gaining, good for skin, hair, bones, etc. Every nut has its property & nutritional benefits.
Nuts also have some side effects like being high in fat, which raises the question of weight gaining process if consumed more than desired. Diseases like heart-related problems, diarrhea, blood pressure, bloating, constipation, feeling gassy, allergies, etc. can be caused due to the intake of nuts more than your body needs.
Seeds are embryonic plants with a built-in nutrient-rich seed coat. Some seeds need their outer husk removed before being consumed. The seeds are consumed in cooking oils, beverages, spices, and sometimes for smoothies. The seeds are a powerhouse of protein, vitamins, fat, dietary fiber, etc., and are needed by the body to keep going in the right direction. Some seeds can be eaten raw or added to your healthy smoothies.
